System of concepts

This system of concepts shall form an outline and framework for The Way of Being.

The concepts will be classed

Existential vs Foundational (the distinction is pragmatic, and the division is porous)

Existential – for living (secondary – applied)

Foundational – how we create and know what we assert

       Basic vs Supporting

    Basic – core, categorial

Supporting – supporting, secondary, detailed, lower level

The treatment of each concept will be—

what it is (a definition and explanation), alternate and related meanings and the (systemic) issue of the meaning,

why the concept is important, and

how it relates to other concepts – vertical, horizontal, other… and how it fits into the system of concepts.

Existential

Foundational

purpose

human motivation

worldly

secular: safety, security, belonging, status, self-actualization

ways

experience, science

transformational

transsecular: transcendence

ways

rational, speculative (rational vs dogmatic)

universal

existential: being-in-the-universe

ways

intuition, imagination, immersion

growth

stages

biological, social, human, universal

origins

sources

seeking, search

experience, reason

history

beings (used in two senses)

beings

primary: whatever is, is a being

existents

secondary: whatever is, and is an agent for self, world, knowledge, value, appreciation of the world, and transformation of self and world

agents

being

primary: existence, property of beings as beings

secondary: agency, property of agents as agents

though the secondary sense is rich and has tradition behind it, the primary sense is precise and allows later introduction of the second sense with greater richness and no essential loss in precision

why being is chosen as fundamental—it incorporates all existence as itself rather than in terms of preconceived and potentially pre-judicial concepts, e.g., mind or matter (mind and matter only as pragmatic)

why being in the secondary sense is not chosen—though there is tradition behind it and it is rich in meaning, it would confuse and prejudice development; in the present approach richness will be included later and, it is found, with greater richness and precision

epistemology

theory of knowledge (including what it is)

concern here is how being and beings are known

abstraction

if there neither beings nor being, there would be nothing

metaphysics

filling in the abstract framework with pragmatic knowledge as justified later

system holism (not about atomism vs holism but individual and system meaning)

categories (see table below)

Universe, beings, nothingness (the void)

Mereology (whole, part, null)

Experience

experience of, the experience (relation),---->
and
the experienced (as if matter and mind)

Action, agency, immersion

Consciousness

Meaning

Concept, relation, object; sign; linguistic meaning, symbol

Knowledge (reflexivity of), conceptual, linguistic

Limitlessness

Limits (real, not absolute)

Overcoming, realization

Becoming-------------------------->

Paradox-------------------------------------->

Consistency (internal, external)

Possibility

Logic, logics

Fact, inference, science

General logic (is this the best name)

Formation, form

Dialetheia, paraconsistent logics

Contra-diction vs contradiction

Dis-diction vs contrareal

Are there paradoxes at the heart of being?

In a realist sense, no, for a paradox is disagreement among takes on or interpretations of the real – the real is simply what it is

Thus, formal paradoxes have resolution

On the other hand, there is a sense of paradox regarding true and apparent limits of beings (and as seen in the real metaphysics), beings are ultimately limitless and thus there is a sense of paradox regarding limits which are real but not absolute

Abstract metaphysics > value

Real metaphysics (the abstract + tradition – secular and transsecular, which is imperfect in terms of received criteria but not in terms of intrinsic criteria

Knowledge, value, appreciation, and transformation

Reflexively perfect
