A short story of my life for the way of being This biography focuses on my story as it illustrates examples and principles of discovery, exploration, sharing, and process. Process is especially significant because ideas, even if they were complete, would be only partial realization—an image of and pointer to the whole. I have been thinking, exploring, and writing toward The Way of Being, implicitly for many years—and explicitly since 2002, when my understanding completed an expansion from our world and cosmos and its science and philosophy to the entire universe, the void, and their metaphysics. My interests include philosophy, science, mathematics, literature, and religion and its meanings. My early interest was in those disciplines in themselves—for excitement and as gateway to the world. Later, the style of thought and exploration I learned and developed became part of a way of discovering, exploring, and becoming ‘what is real in the universe’. An unanticipated self-foundation of thought and being emerged. Activities that have contributed at least indirectly to development of the way include an education, teaching, and research in engineering, physics, and applied mathematics; work in mental health; contact with the natural world in wilderness backpacking across America and in Mexico—this has been critical as the natural world is a port to the real; exploring the real and symbolic aspects of the human search for meaning in and beyond the immediate world. My story is complemented and augmented by my reading in the history of thought and reflection, critical and imaginative, and exploration and action upon that history.
