AND METAPHYSICS:
A LEXICON
ANIL MITRA PHD, COPYRIGHT © February 2004
purpose
To present a basic and essential system of words for understanding world in essential and universal aspects. The purpose is similar to that of words but here the emphasis is on what is essential, to be brief. It is not assumed that such a system is capable – or incapable – of completeness
The following languages are considered: English, French, German, Greek, Latin, Sanskrit
LEXICON
Atman: the essential and eternal core of the self
Brahman or Brahma: the ultimate real; of uncertain etymology in Sanskrit however the onomatopoeia of the word suggests breath as in the breath –essence– of being. And for those who love spelling out “the variety of views expressed in the Upanishads concur in the idea of Brahman as eternal, conscious, irreducible, infinite, omnipresent, spiritual source of the universe of finiteness and change”
