A SCIENCE OF SYMBOLIC
SYSTEMS: EXTRACTS
The actualization of
BEING involves the actualization [through evolution] of a stable dyad of
mutually sustaining potentials
An asymmetry develops
between the elements of the dyad. One of the elements becomes “information” of
which special cases are gene, symbol, language, logic, mathematics
The encoding of the
symbol permits evolution to become cumulative and “intelligent”
This description
implies no ontological prejudice [toward materialism, idealism, and others]
A science of symbolic
systems, then, is a rational-empirical-enumerative survey and analysis of
symbolic systems with special emphasis of the genesis of such systems as
