New Access
Number: 707-667-3147
At any time, you can change your AOL setup to dial a new access
number. You can also change your setup to dial one number first,
then try a second number if the first is not available. If both
your phone numbers are busy and you live in a town where there
are more than two numbers to access AOL, you can add a new "locality,"
then switch from "locality" to "locality"
without having to dial back into AOL for a new access number.
AOL 3.0 for Windows -- To Create a New Location File to Store
Alternate Access Numbers:
1. On the Sign On screen, click Setup.
2. Click Create Location.
3. Delete the default name (New Locality) and type a name for the
new location (for example, San Francisco numbers). Check
the option to use a prefix to reach an outside line if necessary
and click Save.
4. On the Network and Modem Setup window, click on the new
location once to select it and click OK.
5. Select New Local # in the pulldown box on the
Welcome window.
6. Click Sign On (The AOL software will dial a toll free
number).
7. In the Phone Number Search Screen window, type the area code
you want to connect from (or 800 for surcharged access) and click
Continue.
8. Click an access number from the list once to select it and
click Select Phone Number. (note: The same access number
can be selected as both first and second choice)
9. On the Confirm Access Number Choices window click Continue,
AOL will disconnect from the 800 number.
10. Change back to the correct Screen Name and click Sign On.
Now, each
time you see the AOL Setup & Sign-on window, you can
use the phone numbers in the locality you wish to connect to AOL
through. On AOL 3.0 click Setup, select the alternate
locality name by clicking on it once, then click OK. On
AOL 4.0 and above just select the different localities from the
locality pull down box on the Setup & Sign-on window.
AOL members
may incur phone charges for the use of AOL access numbers
depending on their location and local calling plan. The access
number locations may not correspond to your local phone company's
billing designations and therefore need to be carefully selected.
Please check the AOL access number you select with your local
phone company to make sure that the actual number you have
selected is a local call for your calling plan.
Reminder: If
you create a new locality to use when traveling be sure to change
it back to the appropriate selection upon your return.
