Write to me

The letters selected are a haphazard record of the development of my ideas in the context of my life; there is some history and sequence of ideas but the greater emphasis is on the physical, emotional and contextual circumstances of the development. There is a record of problems of self-acceptance which is seen, to whatever degree it is achieved, to flow from self-understanding and time. Time implies the understanding that some things do or have not changed and may or may not change and, even while there may be reason to change, there need be no compulsion to change or inhibition that flows from lack of change. Time is more important than ‘wisdom.’ The letters record some of the trials of my life—such as they may be. There is also a record of my own estimation of my accomplishments—positive and negative and of the difficulty of the positive evaluations. Finally, there is an account of the difficulty of understanding and knowing others, especially those whose way of being is different from one’s own
